Join us for a morning of food sorting at the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank’s warehouse. Typical tasks include sorting fresh produce and packaging dry goods. If there is interest, we can later go out to lunch in Little Tokyo.

Los Angeles Regional Foodbank is a private, nonprofit, charitable organization that obtains millions of pounds of surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and channels it to hundreds of thousands of hungry and needy people throughout Los Angeles County. This is an informal meet and greet where you will meet incoming Cal students and their families. Food and beverages will be served.
The picnic is meant to give the new Cal students a sense of the Cal community and camaraderie amongst its students and alumni and to put a human touch on the whole “going to college” process. We represent what going to Cal is really all about. We want to help put the students and parents at ease about what to expect but at the same time get them excited about what is ahead. Please feel free to discuss your personal experience at Cal with the kids and parents but perhaps refrain from sharing any horror stories or particularly unfortunate mishaps.

Saturday, July 17: Community service event at the Union Rescue Mission, Los Angeles
In conjunction with the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Los Angeles, we will be volunteering to prepare and serve breakfast/lunch to the homeless and residents of the Union Rescue Mission (URM) from 5:45 am to 9:00 am. We know it is early, but you will also be done early and can have the rest of the day to yourself; and you will have made a tangible difference in the community. The folks we serve are extremely grateful and appreciative of the volunteers. Kids (we recommend at least age 10 and above) may also volunteer, so bring your kids and friends.
